Moist chocolate cake recipe
This chocolate cake recipe is really delicious, but easy and a lot of fun to make, so let's get started!
Cake ingredients:
1 cup of self-raising flour
1 tsp of baking powder
1 cup of caster sugar
2 tbsp of cocoa powder
4 large eggs
1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
1 cup of unsalted butter
2 tbsp of milk
Buttercream ingredients (optional):
2 cups of icing sugar
1 cup of butter
2 tbsp of milk
Method:
1. Preheat your oven to 170°C/338°F or gas mark 5. Grease a baking tin lightly with butter or line it with baking paper.
2. Sift in the flour, sugar, baking powder, and cocoa powder; mix until well combined.
3. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, butter, and milk; mix it until well combined and you can't see anymore large lumps (you shouldn't get much since you sieved in the dry ingredients).
4. Pour your cake batter into your baking tin and make sure it is level, put it inside your oven, and bake for at least 20 minutes or until a skewer or toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
5. Remove the cake from the oven and leave it to cool for at least 10 minutes before removing it from the tin.
For the buttercream:
1. Add into another bowl your icing sugar, butter, and milk, start creaming them together with a spoon or hand mixer until nice and creamy.
2. Once your cake is cool, use a spatula to scoop up your buttercream and spread it across the cake, on top, and around.
3. If your cake still isn't fully cooled down after spreading the buttercream then put it in the fridge until cool.
